Author’s Note: Better late than never, eh?
June is when you make it all happen. Having the fair weather and daylight to get caught up on those outdoor projects. Your vegetable garden should be in by now. But June is not too late to sow some beginner friendly crops if you are getting a late start. Radishes and lettuce are ready to harvest in only a few weeks, and can be sown directly in the garden soil. Lettuce prefers cool weather so plant it in the shade now. Planting some every other week will keep you in salads all summer. Sweet corn planted now will be ready for harvest in August. Pick it about 20 days after the silk appears. It is not too late to get some chickens either. We waited to get them, knowing we would be travelling Memorial Day week, and not have anyone to look after them. But were happy to find upon our return that the local Tractor Supply still had chicks in stock. Country life is in full swing in June.
